The rapid re-Islamization of Turkey

Update from Infidels are Cool:

Turkey: The Fethullah Gulen movement streghens

With the last arrests within the army of opponents of AKP’s not-very-well-hidden Islamism,  the power of the Fethullah Gulen movement, an Islamist, hard-line movement grows stronger, that, if wins, can destroy Ataturk legacy. And it looks it can actually win./More

‘Al-Aqsa Mosque, Cave of the Patriarchs and Rachel’s Tomb were not and will never be Jewish sites but Islamic sites’ says…

Yep. That quote came from Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan. Just like this one:  “No Muslim could commit a genocide!!”

From the RoP:

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan worked hard last week denying
the 1915 genocide of Christian Armenians
(genocide pictured above).
This week, he’ll fly down to Saudi Arabia to receive the Muslim world’s
‘Nobel Prize’ – which is awarded to individuals who make the world
a ‘better place’ through ‘positive contributions’ in ‘service to Islam’.

In the wake of the U.S. congressional vote to recognize the 1915 massacre of Armenians as a genocide, Turkey has ramped up its retaliatory rhetoric against the United States. The Turkish government is now threatening to deny the American military access to Incirlik Air Base. (GoV)

What’s Really behind Turkey’s Coup Arrests?

A mountain has moved in Turkish politics. All shots against the military are now fair game, including those below the belt. The force behind this dramatic change is the Fethullah Gulen Movement (FGH), an ultraconservative Islamic political faction that backs the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). More>>

The Ascent of Evil: Receding American Hegemony/Atlas Shrugs

Hurriet/Turkish Daily

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan has criticized French President Nicolas Sarkozy over his opposition to Turkey joining the European Union in an interview to mark the launch of the Euronews television channel’s new Turkish language service.

In his first interview with the European TV channel Euronews on Saturday, ErdoÄŸan spoke about a range of topics, from Turkey’s negotiations aimed at eventual full membership in the European Union to Cyprus, relations with Israel, and questions on Kurds and Armenia.

The Turkish prime minister said some of the EU member states were not acting honestly during Turkey’s ongoing negotiation with the bloc. “This is where a problem arises. Why am I saying this? Because they are trying to corner Turkey with conditions that do not exist in the acquis communautaire [the total accumulated body of EU law]. This is really wrong,” he said.

New Erdogan, old Erdogan: same Jew-hatin' scumbag…

Erdogan encourages antisemitism

No surprise here. Erdogan is a believing Muslim. He knows that the worst enemies of the Muslims are the Jews — the Qur’an says so (5:82).

“Israel-Turkey; Report, Erdogan Encourages Anti-Semitism,” from ANSAmed/JW

– JERUSALEM, JANUARY 26 – Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan “indirectly incites and encourages anti-Semitism” in his country, according to a report drafted by the research department of the Israeli Foreign Ministry and published today by Israeli Haaretz daily. According to the report, which has been sent to the country’s main ministers, “ever since his party took power, Erdogan has conducted an ongoing process of fashioning a negative view of Israel in Turkish public opinion.” Moreover, “for Erdogan and some of those around him there is no distinction between ‘Israeli’ and ‘Jewish'”. The Turkish Premier Erdogan also “turns a blind eye” and “grants legitimacy” to anti-Israeli television programs of an inflammatory, anti-Semitic nature. The recent humiliation of the Turkish ambassador to Israel, for which Deputy Foreign Minister was forced to apologise in public, has made it clear to the Turkish government that the country has crossed lines in its attacks on Israel and in the limits of the Israeli government’s patience. Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and his deputy Ayalon, both of the ultra-nationalist Beitenu party, are the leaders of the hard line against Turkey. Defence Minister and leader of the Labour party, Ehud Barak, on the other hand favours a softer approach. He wants to continue to have friendly relations with the country, which he believes to be of strategic importance. The report ends with the pessimistic conclusion that “Turkey today, under the leadership of the AKP (Erdogan’s party), is different from the Turkey with which Israel forged a strategic relationship in the early 1990s.”

From the excellent Tundra Tabloids:

The Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ishanoglu, told the Tundra Tabloids a couple of years ago in Helsinki that, “no Muslim, good or bad, could be antisemitic”, so why should Recep Tayyip Erdogan believe the Israeli report? Muslims believe that they have the right to address Jews and any other non-muslim in any way they see fit, such sentiment is a crucial part of the Islamic supremacist package.

“Turkey no longer needs a close relationship with Israel”

“Strongest among men in enmity to the believers wilt thou find the Jews…” — Qur’an 5:82

Thus with Turkey’s turn toward Islamic supremacism and Islamic rule, its new enmity toward Israel comes as no surprise.

“‘Turkey no longer needs a close relationship with Israel,'” from Haaretz, January 19 (thanks to JW):

The rift in Israeli-Turkish relations is the result of Ankara turning away from secularism and toward more radical Islam, Israel’s military intelligence chief said on Tuesday. The comments to a parliamentary committee by Maj. General Amos Yadlin reflected wider concern in Israel and followed a high profile visit to Turkey on Sunday by Defense Minister Ehud Barak that was meant to help mend the relationship after a sharp diplomatic row.

“Turkey no longer needs a close relationship with Israel,” a parliamentary official quoted Yadlin as telling the foreign affairs committee of the Knesset.

“They are currently in the midst of a fundamental process of moving further away from the secular Ataturk approach, closer to a radical approach,” Yadlin said, adding that key factors had been an easing of Turkish concerns about Syria and Ankara’s failure to clinch membership of the European Union….

Erdogan wins Saudi "Prize for Service to Islam"- Israel tells Turkey to get stuffed….

Turning back the clock in Turkey:

The Saudis clearly realize what the Western world is determined to ignore: that Erdogan has put Turkey on the path to discarding Kemalist secularism and becoming an Islamic state. “Turkey’s PM awarded by Arab world for ‘services to Islam,” fromWorld Bulletin, January 12 (thanks to JW):

Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is announced the winner of “King Faisal International Prize” which is considered the “Nobel prize” of the Arab world.

The award, which is given every year by Saudi Arabia’s King Faisal Foundation, is presented to scientists and people who create positive differences in the world and make contributions to Islam.

This year’s winners were announced at a ceremony held in Riyadh.

Erdogan was selected by the foundation for “his services to Islam”.

Commenting on Erdogan’s success, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), said that the foundation decided to award Erdogan as his remarkable contributions and extraordinary successes were highly appreciated.

Pointing to Erdogan’s virtuous leadership, Ihsanoglu said the Turkish prime minister contributed to the righteous causes of the Islam world and to the formation of “Alliance of Civilizations” initiative.

Calls to Settle Palestinians Living in Arab Countries

Arab state treatment of the Palestinians, with the partial exception of Jordan, has been the silent disgrace of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

The bulk of the refugees fled in 1948-49 and the great majority of them are now dead; what are called “Palestinian refugees” are nothing of the sort, but the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of refugees. Year after year, they are born into “refugee camps” or are otherwise kept apart from the mainstream society (I document some of the disabilities they suffer in one country at “Restrictions on Palestinians in Lebanon“) – all for the purported reason of keeping them ready for “return” to a hoped-for Palestine and to keep them handy as a dagger poised against Israel’s very existence.

This maltreatment has gone virtually unremarked for decades. Must yet more generations be born before Arabs conclude these people need to allowed to live normal lives in the places they were born?

In reverse chronological order, this weblog entry follows calls made for settlement of Palestinians.

Turkey’s turnabout

By BENNY AVNI/New York Post

Turkey this week broke sig nificantly with Israel and the West — a strong sign that President Obama‘s outreach to the Muslim world is achieving nothing.

On Monday, NATO scrapped “Anatolian Eagle,” a regularly scheduled military exercise with various allies along the Turkish border — drills meant to assure coordination in case of war in the region. At the last minute, Turkey had announced its refusal to let the Israeli Defense Force participate. Standing by its ally, America dropped out as well — killing the whole thing.

A day later, Turkish and Syrian officials disclosed that their armies had just concluded their own joint military exercise. The same day, the two countries went even further, signing a strategic cooperation pact.

My prediction: Turkey is the next Iran, unless Obama stops blaming the U.S. for Islamist aggression and gives support to Turkey’s secular institutions, including the Turkish army. Jimmy Carter tried the blame America first tactic; it didn’t win us any friends and led to 30 years of tyranny and human rights abuses in Iran. Don’t repeat the same mistake in Turkey.
