Turkey demands a NATO secretary-general who is not "disrespectful toward Islam"

Among other things, he is accused of having “an irresponsible and unsentimental attitude during the [Muhammad] cartoon crisis.” In other words, he seems to be an advocate of free speech. “Rasmussen disrespectful toward Islam: Turkey’s senior AKP official,” from World Bulletin, March 24:

Suat Kiniklioglu, deputy chairman of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party for foreign relations, said, “it is unacceptable that a person who loutishly disrespect our faith and holy values in the past, will head the Alliance.”
In an interview with the A.A, Kiniklioglu said that election of Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen of Denmark as the new secretary-general of NATO could cause some difficulties for the Alliance because of the Islam[ic] world’s perception of him.”

“The Danish prime minister is a troublesome person for Turkey. There are three reasons of this: First of all, he was captured by cameras as saying after the EU Summit in 2003 that Turkey would never become a full member of the EU; then, he assumed an irresponsible and unsentimental attitude during the cartoon crisis, and lastly, he failed to prevent broadcast of Roj TV from Denmark,” he said.

The cartoon crisis erupted in 2006 after a Danish newspaper cartoon depicted the Prophet Mohammad (PBHU)in a way regarded as a serious disrespect by Muslims.

“The way of the Islam world’s perceiving Rasmussen is of great importance. It is unacceptable for us that a person who loutishly disrespect our faith and holy values in the past, will head the Alliance especially in a period when U.S.President Barack Obama wants to focus his foreign policy on Afghanistan and Pakistan,” he said.

Byt Turkey does not just complain; it offers solutions, such as nominating dhimmis who know how to appease Islam:
Kiniklioglu said, “Defense Minister Peter Mackay of Canada, who is also a candidate, well-understands Turkey’s sensitivities. He could stand up and object to the approval of the Armenian resolution by the Canadian parliament. On the other hand, some circles are trying to create a consensus in favor of Rasmussen by showing Turkey as the only country objecting to his election. In fact, there are other countries which are positive about Mackay’s becoming the next secretary-general of the Alliance. The United States, in the meantime, has not yet made a decision.”…

A failed asylum seeker was jailed for 18 months yesterday after admitting dishonestly receiving more than £100,000 in state handouts.

BMW-driving Huseyin Akbulut, 48, came to the UK from Turkey in 1993 to get fertility treatment for his wife.

He unsuccessfully claimed asylum in 2001 and, when appeal rights were exhausted, began fiddling benefits.

The UK Border Agency, who plan to recoup the cash from his assets, said: “He abused the country’s hospitality for his own greed.”

Doncaster crown court heard the local dad-of-one made false claims for six years despite holding key positions in four businesses.

Akbulut was given £66,957 in accommodation payments and £33,225 in cash.

There is an article, with numerous links, posted by Joachim Véliocas at his websiteIslamisation. It concerns the Turkish population of Metz, capital of the Lorraine region in the northeast of France, and its hope for a giant mosque of its own, despite the many prayer rooms that already exist in the city. The article is based on a report in the dailyRépublicain Lorrain, dated February 20, that discusses plans for the mosque, focusing on comments made by the leaders of five Turkish associations of the city of Metz. Each of these associations hopes to manage or co-manage the projected mosque. One of the associations is the Islamist Milli Görüs party, whose founder, the former prime Minister of Turkey Necmettin Erbakan, was forced out of power in 1997 by the Turkish military and by the constitutional court that found him too radical.

There are roles that the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan commands with flying colors. There is the Erdogan who is filled with concern for his people, a man who plays the role of the forgiving father. This Erdogan recently visited a repentant barber who had been sentenced to death for blasphemy in Saudi Arabia and was eventually pardoned. The prime minister picked up the man’s young son and gave him a toy car.

And then there is the Erdogan who plays the protective brother. He is a man who takes his people by the hand and gives it new direction in difficult times. That was the Erdogan who flew to Germany last year after nine Turkish immigrants had died in a house fire in the southern city of Ludwigshafen. Speaking to 18,000 Turks in Cologne, Erdogan warned them against “assimilation,” calling it a “crime against humanity.”

The Jewish lobby in the U.S. might withdraw its years-long efforts to prevent the U.S. President to use the word “genocide” in his message regarding the 1915 “incidents”- (calling the annihilation of 1.5 million Armenians “incidents” is adding insult to injury, but don’t forget: this is from a Turkish Newspaper)

2. A possible attempt in the U.S. Congress to recognize the 1915 incidents as “Armenian genocide” will pass easily as the Jewish lobby withdraws its support to Turkey’s arguments.

3. Israel could raise its voice in the argument that compares its struggle with Hamas to Turkey’s fight against the terror organization PKK. The Jewish lobby might withdraw its support to Turkey in its struggle with PKK in Europe as well as the U.S.

4. This incident might have a negative impact on Turkey-Armenia relations. The Armenian diaspora could garner the support of the Jewish lobby.

5. This might end Turkey’s “mediation” efforts in the world especially in the Middle East.

6. The Davos crisis might harm Turkey’s image of a “neutral country” in the UN Security Council.

They want one-third of monastery property — and their legal action, Christians say, is “part of a larger system of discrimination” against Christians. The Muslims say that it is…occupation! “Our land is being occupied by the monastery.” Sheesh.

ISTANBUL, January 22 (Compass Direct News) – Syriac Christians in southeastern Turkey say a land dispute over the historic Mor Gabriel Monastery is part of a larger system of discrimination against the religious minority in this overwhelmingly Islamic country. Muslim residents of southeastern Turkey dispute the boundary lines of an ancient Christian monastery dating to the fourth century as being unnecessarily large for the needs of a religious community. Islamic leaders from Yayvantepe, Eglence and Candarli are attempting to confiscate one-third of the monastery’s property, claiming it was wrongfully appropriated and that they need it for their livestock. The mayors of the three towns also charged the monastery with attempting to proselytize young children (illegal in Turkey) and carrying out “anti-Turkish” activity. Metropolitan Timotheos Samuel Aktas, leader of the monastery, said in a report that these claims were groundless and of the same provocative nature that has historically sparked violence against Turkey’s Christians. “All the allegations are frivolous and vexatious, devoid of any logic or evidence, solely aimed with the malicious intent of rousing anti-Christian sentiments by the surrounding Muslim villages,” he said.

Honor killing: “Retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right.” However, “not subject to retaliation” is “a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring.” (‘Umdat al-Saliko1.1-2.) In other words, someone who kills his child incurs no legal penalty under Islamic law.

ANKARA – Lifting a ban on women wearing the Muslim headscarf at university violates Turkey’s secular constitution, the country’s top court said on Wednesday, defending a decision against the ruling AK Party.In a legal reasoning that appeared to end any hope for the Islamist-rooted AK Party to revive the sensitive headscarf issue, the Constitutional Court said that while wearing a headscarf was ‘an individual choice and a freedom’, lifting the ban was ‘openly against the principles of secularism’.Continues next page
