A Chinese clothing manufacturer probably thought it was on to a winner by exporting jeans bearing the Islamic expression “In the name of God, the compassionate, the merciful” to Iran. But an otherwise sound marketing ploy was undone by one embarrassing flaw: the phrase (Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim in Arabic), which graces each of the Qur’an’s 114 chapters, was prominently displayed on the pockets of the jeans’ backsides, something likely to be seen as disrespectful by devout Muslims.

After the government in 2001 discovered massive welfare fraud and wanted to research the registers in Morocco, the social attaché of the Dutch embassy was threatened and was provided with private security. When the Dutch government proposed to stop the transfer of children’s allowance, the Moroccan Ambassador in the Netherlands threatened : “they should not enrage 300,000 Moroccans [in the Netherlands], they will explode.” The Dutch government (then PvdA, VVD and D66) stopped the research.

Flemish correspondent VH has compiled a report on Geert Wilders’ recent call for an official government assessment of the costs of immigration. Here’s his summary (footnotes are all the way at the bottom of the post):

While the Belgian government is planning to hand out residence permits (and taxpayers’ money) to 50,000 or even 100,000 illegal “sans papiers” (the Dutch government did the same in 2007 with 27,500 asylum seekers), the PVV in the Netherlands demands a proper insight in the costs and benefits of immigration. All parties except the center-right VVD oppose the request, and we have yet to see whether the Jan Peter Balkenende government will sabotage the request or not.

Vlaams Belang requested the same a few years ago in Flanders. Though they did not get any answers from the government, they were still able to produce an outstanding report based on data collected by other means. Still, immigration continues: the immigrant share of prison population in the VB report is 38.4% (2006), but in the meantime it has risen to 48%(2009). (Minus three gangsters, Ashraf Sekkaki, Abdelhaq Melloul Khayari, and another one escaped in a helicopter Thursday night.)

The “traditional” parties, on the one hand, claim that immigration is a benefit to the economy and even a necessity, but on the other hand refuse to provide the data or help prove their viewpoint. In Flanders it became clear why: as it turns out, there is no benefit, but a loss of about €2 billion a year, a bill paid by the Flemish taxpayer.

The Migration Policy Institute, a think tank, states on this issue: “[…] Although public spending on immigration is rising in many countries […], there is very little comparative data on migration policy spending.” They further state that “evaluation is required to estimate the impact of policy on individual immigrants as well as on natives.”

Misunderstanders of Islam pass law mandating stoning for adultery

Cherif Bassiouni, distinguished emeritus yada yada, to make the trip out to Aceh forthwith to explain to the relevant authorities that they’re getting the Religion of Peace and Tolerance all wrong, wrong, wrong — for hey, the Koran doesn’t mandate stoning for adultery!

Indonesia’s province of Aceh has passed a new law making adultery punishable by stoning to death, a member of the province’s parliament has said.

The law was passed unanimously by Aceh’s regional legislature, said assembly member Bahrom Rasjid….Sharia law was partially introduced in Aceh in 2001, as part of a government offer to pacify separatist rebels….

Married people convicted of adultery can be sentenced to death by stoning. Unmarried people can be sentenced to 100 lashes with a cane.

The law also imposes severe sentences for rape, homosexuality, alcohol consumption and gambling.

A RIOT by Muslim youths in the western Sydney suburb of Auburn last week was organised via Facebook, police believe.

The troublemakers used the social networking site to flash up inflammatory references to police and rally their friends for a confrontation.

One update identified police as “non-believers” who were raiding a “brother’s home”.

More than 150 people gathered in Cumberland Road, Auburn, on Tuesday night, forcing police to call in 100 officers, the riot squad and a helicopter.

The tense stand-off came after Middle Eastern organised crime squad police raided four homes.

Opposition Police spokesman Mike Gallacher’s office revealed one of the Facebook updates read: “Kefeirs raiding brother’s house, everyone get down hier (sic)!!”

A spokesman for Mr Gallacher said the term used to describe the police had become a slang Arabic term used to describe non-believers.

Mr Gallacher said laws preventing the use of a mobile to call or text others to incite a riot failed to cover social networking sites such as Facebook.

“I don’t think it is an intentional move by people to get around the law — it is the way a lot of younger people contact one another and it would appear there is a loophole in the law,” he said.

“Using Facebook and Twitter and modern technology gives a quicker way of getting messages out to a larger number of people.”

Detective Chief Superintendent Ken McKay said the Middle Eastern organised crime squad was looking into phone communication and would expand the investigation to Facebook.

He said regardless of the laws covering the means of communication, the police could still identify and pursue those responsible for Facebook messages.

“If you incite a riot it doesn’t matter by which means, how you do that is somewhat irrelevant,” Supt McKay said.

And he said he was concerned by the general lack of respect young people from all backgrounds have for authority.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for Attorney-General John Hatzistergos also said current laws could be applied, adding: “There is a range of serious offences where people call on others to riot or commit other offences via mobile phone or the internet.”

Demoting Islam's Religion Status

The purpose of this article is to introduce the proposition that Islam’s religion status is undeserving, that it should never have been granted in the first place, and that its religion status should be immediately rescinded.

Why? Because Islam — whether you call it moderate, militant, main stream, traditional or radical — is a relentless foe inherently programmed to conqueror its host nation. “The enemy is Islam. Not a fringe group within the body of believers … Not radical Islam as if a faction can be separated from the “mainstream” Islam. But Islam itself, as expressed by the life and teachings of Muhammad …”

Osama bin Laden has resurfaced again, this time in an 11-minute long audio tape posted on an Islamist Web site. The al-Qaeda leader purportedly has a message for the public only two days after the eighth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. In “A statement to the American people” bin Laden says “The time has come for you to liberate yourselves from fear and the ideological terrorism of neo-conservatives and the Israeli lobby.” In the tape, which hasn’t yet been verified, bin Laden allegedly comments on the current government: “If you think about your situation well, you will know that the White House is occupied by pressure groups.” The tape is thought to be recorded after President Obama’s speech in Cairo in June.

Today the London Muslim Centre of the East London Mosque hosted another radical event: “Ramadan – The Month Of Conquest”. It was organised by a group called Ummah Voice.

Not that this has anything to do with Islam or jihad, mind you. Just wondering what they mean with “month of conquest”- any idea, Solkhar?

One of the speakers, Haitham al Haddad, an Islamist of Palestinian origin who grew up in Saudi Arabia and studied sharia at Omdurman University in Khartoum, Sudan, will be familiar to readers of this blog.

Here he is in the midst of a speech hailing the “victory” of Hamas in the Gaza war, saying that he wants the state of Israel to be annihilated. He also offers some utterly bizarre ideas about Jews uncovering Jesuit conspiracies.

My proposed solution for the Israelis is to leave Palestine and to go back to their own countries to live in peace. If they want to live in peace, in real peace, they should leave Palestine and leave it for the Palestinians and those Jews who would like to live in Palestine, but under the Palestinian government, not under the Israeli government.

Many Jews believe that no, they should not live in a separate state in Palestine, and they should not establish the Temple until the antichrist come. So the antichrist should come back first, and then the Jews can have their own state, not the other way around. One of the strategic mistakes that Israel fell into is that many Israelis now, many Jews, started to think about this more and they are questioning themselves. Why do we take part in these wars? Another speaker is Shakeel Begg, the imam of the Lewisham and Kent Islamic Centre and the Islamic chaplain at Goldsmiths. He was born in Kenya and grew up in London. He is a graduate of the Islamic University of Medina in Saudi Arabia.

It was not “spontaneous combustion” that brought back, in a big and most dangerous way, the pursuit of Jihad, which by now has gone beyond such original local victims of the post-war period as Israel and India. It now targets non-Muslim peoples all over, both in the Muslim-ruled lands, where they have steadily been persecuted, humiliated, and their numbers have declined, and in the lands of Dar al-Harb, where the Muslims who have innocently and far too negligently been allowed to settle in large numbers have taken advantage of every benefit the generous Infidel nations provide. These include the kind of education and medical care unobtainable in the Muslim lands. Muslims have also taken advantage of the edifice of human rights guarantees in order not to promote but rather to subvert the very legal and political institutions that gave birth to those rights, and have helped to maintain and even expand them.
