Salvini Hits Back at U.N. as New Human Rights Chief Orders Probe into Italy ‘Racism’

As a result, Matteo Salvini is threatening to withdraw funding from the UN.

The Italian Deputy Prime Minister, Interior Minister, and leader of the Lega threatened on Monday with an end to Italian funding for the UN.

Salvini was reacting to a comment by the UN human rights chief, Michel Bachelet, who said that her agency is investigating human rights abuse in Italy and Austria. The former President of Chile has expressed concerns for a “reported sharp increase in acts of violence and racism against migrants, persons of African descent and Roma.”

From Geneva, the former President of Chile also noted that the absence of NGO vessels in the Mediterranean means more deaths at sea.

Salvini vehemently deflected UN criticism, recalling that Italy has taken in over 700,000 migrants without EU member-state solidarity and accused the UN of political bias. Salvini also said that the UN is an organisation that “costs billions of euros” marred with “waste, embezzlement, and theft” and member states that still practice “torture and the death penalty.”

Salvini said that Italy would, therefore, “weigh” the usefulness of funding for the UN and told Bachelet to look elsewhere for human rights abuses.

Lega was elected on a promise to expel 500,000 illegal migrants.

Feminists and the NSW Attorney General have expressed concern after a Sydney Muslim preacher declared it was a ‘major sin’ for a wife to refuse sex with her husband.

Nassim Abdi, a fundamentalist Sunni, told an Auburn mosque in the city’s west a woman would be ‘cursed’ by angels for withholding marital intimacy.

‘If the husband calls the wife to be intimate and there’s no legitimate reason for the woman to say no, then she must answer the call of her husband,’ he said on Friday night.

‘She must answer the call of her husband and if not she has committed a major sin.

The Trump administration plans to announce the closure of the Palestinian mission in Washington in response to the Palestinian Authority’s refusal to enter peace negotiations, according to multiple reports on Monday.

A senior Palestinian official confirmed the U.S. would close its de facto embassy in the capital, a move first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

“We have been notified by a US official of their decision to close the Palestinian mission to the US,” Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) secretary-general Saeb Erekat (pictured) said in a statement.

“This is yet another affirmation of the Trump administration’s policy to collectively punish the Palestinian people, including by cutting financial support for humanitarian services including health and education.”

Just last June, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Attorney General Jeff Sessions were urged by lawmakers to close the diplomatic outlet, which endorses “flagrant violations” of U.S. law such as payments to terrorists.

A new bill pushing for Islamic face veils to be banned at major airports, Centrelink offices and in citizenship ceremonies will be tabled in Parliament on Tuesday.

Australian Conservatives leader Cory Bernardi wants the burqa and the niqab outlawed on Commonwealth land and buildings, which would include the whole of the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory.

Mr Bernardi, a frequent critic of full-face Muslim head coverings, aims to have the bill debated in Parliament by the end of the year.

Londonistan has emerged as a hot spot for acid attacks in recent years, with more than half of the UK‘s acid attacks taking place in the capital. The number of cases more than doubled from less than 200 in 2014 to 431 in 2016, with Scotland Yard focusing on specific parts of the city.

THE UK has seen a disturbing surge in acid attacks in recent years with London being the worst hit.

There are plans to further restrict the sale of corrosive substances — but why are such brutal attacks on the rise?
