Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias said the “two peoples and two states” thesis of the Turkish Cypriot side was unacceptable calling on Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus President Dervis Eroglu to give it up.

Christofias delivered a speech Friday in Lefkosa, during his meeting with the new British High Commissioner to the Republic of Cyprus John Christopher William Kidd.

He said the settlement talks would proceed as they agreed with former Turkish Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat, on the basis of a bizonal and bi communal federation with political equality, single sovereignty, and single foreign representation as laid down by UN Security Council resolutions.

Christofias said though they recorded relative progress in some of the crucial issues in talks with Talat, no major progress took place, accusing his former counterpart of lacking flexibility and autonomy.

Christofias urged the new Turkish Cypriot President Eroglu to give up on the two peoples and two states thesis under a loose confederation. He argued that Eroglu won the elections with votes of Turkish Cypriot citizens who migrated from Turkey.

Paris: Bus attacks continue in Paris suburb

The “youths” are at it again.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy met with bus drivers who refused to work in the impoverished northern Paris suburb of Tremblay-en-France after a bus was attacked Wednesday night. (Don’t you wonder why they’re so “impverished” in spite of the billions in welfare they receive from the French gov’t..?/ed)

French President Nicolas Sarkozy called on law enforcement officials Friday to intensify their operations in the impoverished suburbs of Paris following Wednesday night’s attack on a bus.

The bus was attacked when a gang of hooded youths launched Molotov cocktails at a crowded bus in the northern Paris suburb of Tremblay-en-France. The driver managed to get all the passengers safely off the bus. But the incident led bus drivers to boycott routes in the troubled suburb. (“hooded youths” they are, nothing to do with Islam, you know the drill…)

Jihad: the threat just keeps growing

…Hard on the heels of Najibullah Zazi‘s subway bomb try, the Manhattan U.S. attorney has indicted two Brooklyn men, U.S. citizens, for allegedly conspiring to abet Al Qaeda‘s communication needs and its capacity to detonate explosives.

Count the arrests of Wesam el-Hanafi and Sabirhan Hasanoff as another victory for America’s anti-terror forces, but do not sleep well, for the enemy is determined and dispered [sic] among us.

Even a partial inventory of attempted attacks by radicalized Muslims on these shores puts the threat into terrifying perspective:

  • Jose Padilla, arrested in 2002 as the so-called dirty bomber, was convicted of conspiring with Islamic terrorists.
  • The Lackawanna Six – Sahim Alwan, Faysal Galab, Shafal Mosed, Yasein Taher, Yahya Goba and Mukhtar al-Bakri – were busted in 2002 and convicted of aiding Osama Bin Laden.
  • Ohio truck driver Iyman Faris was charged in 2003 with conspiring to topple the Brooklyn Bridge. He was sentenced to 20 years.
  • Eleven men, known as the Virginia jihad network, were charged in 2003 with planning to train at terrorist camps. Nine were U.S. citizens. They were sentenced to prison.
  • U.S. citizen James Elshafay admitted plotting in 2004 to blow up the Herald Square station.
  • Yassin Araf and Mohmmad Hossein were arrested in Albany in 2004 for trying to buy a grenade launcher to assassinate a Pakistani diplomat. They got 15 years.
  • U.S. citizens Umer Hayat and Hamid Hayat, his son, were arrested inCalifornia in 2005 after lying to the FBI about Hamid’s attendance at an Al Qaeda training camp. They were convicted.
  • Four members of terror cell Jam’iyyat Ul-Islam Is-Saheeh were charged in 2005 with conspiring to attack the Los Angeles airport. Three went to prison, one to a mental facility.
  • Michael Reynolds was busted in 2005 for plotting to blow up a Wyomingnatural-gas refinery. He was sentenced to 30 years.
  • Syed Haaris Ahmed, a Pakistani, and Ehsanul Islam Sadequee, an American of Bangladeshi descent, were charged in 2006 with conspiring to make videos for extremists. They were convicted.
  • Seven men, including five U.S. citizens, were charged in 2006 with conspiring to blow up Chicago‘s Sears Tower. Six were convicted.
  • Former U.S. sailor Hassan Abujihaad was accused in 2007 of giving locations of Navy ships to a group that supports terrorists. He got 10 years.
  • Six New Jersey men were imprisoned in a 2007 conspiracy to attack Fort Dix.
  • An American and three others allegedly plotted to bomb fuel lines at JFK. They await trial.
  • Christopher Paul, a U.S. citizen, was arrested in 2008 for conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction against U.S. and European targets. He got 20 years.
  • Four men were charged in 2009 with plotting to bomb Bronx synagogues. They await trial.
  • Hosam Maher Husein Smadi, a Jordanian living in Dallas, was charged in 2009 with trying to car-bomb an office tower.
  • Michael Finton of Illinois was busted in 2009 in a courthouse bomb plot inspired by American Taliban John Walker Lindh.
  • Bryant Neal Vinas of Long Island was busted in 2009 for allegedly giving Al Qaeda information on the subways and Long Island Rail Road.
  • Brooklyn-born Betim Kaziu was charged in 2009 with trying to join an Al Qaeda affiliate in hope of killing U.S. troops.
  • Twelve Americans were indicted in 2009 for allegedly supporting Al Shabaab, a terror group seeking to overthrow the Somali government.
  • Colleen LaRose, aka Jihad Jane, was charged this year with plotting to kill a Swedish cartoonist who had depicted the Prophet Mohammed.
  • Sharif Mobley, a 26-year-old New Jersey man, was arrested in March in a roundup of Al Qaeda suspects in Yemen.

Zazi admitted he and pals planned to suicide-bomb Grand Central and Times Square subways….

Hmmm. What do all those people have in common? What, oh, what, could it be?

But somehow, the truth seeps out: The long and foggy war

Tariq Ramadan, a Swiss-born academic last week told The Washington Post that jihad “has nothing to do with holy war. … Where you are trying to resist bad temptations and reform yourself with good aspirations that you have, this is a jihad of the self.”

What makes this lie so brazen — the Post did not think to question it — is Ramadan is the grandson of Hassan al-Banna, who in 1928 founded the Muslim Brotherhood.

Al-Banna himself stated clearly the Qur’an and other Islamic doctrines “summon people … to jihad, to warfare, to the armed forces, and all means of land and sea fighting.” In addition: The Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood is Hamas. Among Hamas’ founders was Sheikh Abdullah Azzam, who also was Osama bin Laden’s mentor. As Andy McCarthy relates in “Willful Blindness,” Azzam “galvanized Muslims worldwide with his call to jihad — traditional, unreservedly violent jihad.”


None of this should be surprising. What is: the obstinate naivete, the determined ignorance, the continuing willful blindness of so many of our political and media leaders in the face of the 21st century’s most daunting and deadly threat.

Not only in Southern Thailand. The global jihad rages worldwide, except in our lame stream media. Mark Magnier, who writes  for the Los Angeles Times, doesn’t help to to clear things up either, because he lacks understanding of the ideology that drives the global jihad.

The Thai army has ceded more power to paramilitary forces. Many of the troops are poorly trained and, critics say, further antagonize the Malay-speaking majority in three troubled southern provinces.

So now they are “Malay speaking?”  Why?  What makes them “Malay speaking” when just 30 years ago they were all Thai speaking, raised the Thai flag in their schools and served in the Thai army, while their girls intermarried with Buddhists  and others?

Reporting from Pattani, Thailand – The Islamic teacher sat on the wooden porch of his house smiling politely, his infant son playing at his feet. Those who study the Koran are automatically suspect, Dul Nasir Hama said, adding that he’s not a terrorist nor are his students part of the insurgency.

If you visit this site every day, you know that there are three kinds of news stories related to or about Islam. There are the stories that, within a day or a week, will make it to the New York Times, and NPR, albeit in less intelligible and often tendentious form. Then there are the stories that only appear months later, and you can’t quite figure out why it takes so long for the editors at The New York Times or the Washington Post to recognize the significance of such Jihad News. And finally, there is a third kind of story, the kind of story that you read here, that appeared in places quite obscure, and that you will never read again, unless the story put up here is publicized so that others who write online pick it up and force the major news organizations to start reporting about such things.

Here, for example, are two stories about what took place in the Chittagong Hills of Bangladesh recently. The Chittagong Hills (or “Chittagong Hill Tract”) have for centuries been lived in by the indigenous Jumma people, who are the last remaining indigenous Buddhists (the Tibetan refugees not being “indigenous”) on the entire subcontinent, though it was in India that Gautama Buddha was born and Buddhism first flourished. In 1947, at the time of Partition, 85% of the population was Buddhist and 10% Hindu. Now, in 2010, 50% are Buddhist and 48% are Muslim settlers.

Genocide on Hindus & Buddhists in the Chittagong hills

…apart from killings of 10 poor Chakmas, at least 200 houses in 11 Chakma villages were burnt to ashes by marauding goons on the night of February 19. At one point during the clash, the military personnel started firing indiscriminately on fleeing Chakma villagers only to help encourage attacking Muslim settlers. Chittagong is Bangladesh’s only district having a significant Buddhist population. Army was called in after a pagoda and an office of a UN-funded project were set on fire. A statue of Lord Buddha installed at the Banani Buddhist Monastery was damaged and another statue was looted.

The move “is an abuse of European justice for political motives,” the Arabs said at a meeting ahead of an Arab summit to be hosted by Libya later this month.

Just an economic and commercial boycott, that’s all. But of course Qaddafi would be the first to oppose any economic and commercial boycott of Saudi Arabia for not allowing the construction of churches and synagogues — and Switzerland has done far less than that regarding mosques. “Libya says jihad against Switzerland ‘not an armed struggle,'” from the Telegraph, March 4 (thanks to JW):

Libya said its leader Colonel Gaddafi’s call for “jihad” against Switzerland was not a reference to armed struggle.

Ali Aujali, Libya’s ambassador to the United States, said: “It is a call for (an) economic and commercial boycott against Switzerland, this is true, but it doesn’t mean by any means that it is an armed struggle.”

On Feb 25, Col Gaddafi called for a “jihad” against Switzerland, branding it an infidel state that was destroying mosques – an apparent reference to a Swiss referendum in favour of banning the construction of minarets.

But Mr Aujali said that Tripoli still expects an apology for US criticism of his remarks.…
