Police in India have arrested Islamic cleric Abdul Nasser Madani in connection with blasts that hit the city of Bangalore in mid-2008.

Abdul Nasser Madani was arrested at his home in the state of Kerala.

He accuses the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Karnataka, whose capital is Bangalore, of “framing” him.

One woman was killed and several others injured in July 2008 when seven bombs hit crowded areas of the city, which is India’s information technology hub.   ( BBC)

Despite the title of the article, which implies a more reciprocal level of activity, the “pushing back” occurring here is but a demonstration held on Sunday, and the ongoing, determined defiance of religious minorities whose only “provocation” is to go on living their lives according to their constitutional rights.

It is not so much pushing back as standing one’s rightful ground. The New Vision reported:

FOUR key suspects who confessed to involvement in the bomb blasts were paraded before journalists yesterday.

Two of them, Edris Nsubuga and Haruna Hassan Luyima, cried over the pain their actions caused. Issa Luyima and Haruna Hassan Luyima are brothers, while Nsubuga is their friend. The fourth suspect was identified as Mohamood Mugisha.

“I am very sorry for the loss of life. I was hesitant to pick on Ugandans.My target was the Americans, who I think are responsible for the suffering in the world. The leader of the Philippines’ long-running Muslim insurgency said Monday he was hopeful of signing a peace deal during new President Benigno Aquino’s six-year term.

“Peace deal” means what?

In the Muslim view, treaties with Infidels are NOT to be obeyed. They are to be entered into when Muslims feel that they are at the moment too weak to do otherwise, and where they sense that they can gain, in the end, by entering temporarily into a treaty with Infidels. For Muslims, every treaty with Infidels is merely a “truce” treaty, a “hudna.” The very idea that Muslims could recognize the permanence of an Infidel nation-state goes against everything in Islam.

Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) leader Murad Ebrahim said rebel negotiators were prepared to resume peace talks with the government after the Islamic holy month of Ramadan in September, as flagged by Aquino earlier.

“We can see that they (Aquino’s government) are really addressing the problems of the Bangsa Moro (local Muslims),” Murad told a small group of reporters at a rebel camp outside the southern city of Cotabato.

“He has six years to resolve the problem. If he is really sincere, we can’t go wrong in solving the problem in his time.

The 12,000-strong MILF has been waging an insurgency for more than three decades to carve out a separate Muslim state in the mostly Catholic country’s southern island of Mindanao.

(And now they don’t want a seperate Muslim state anymore?)

The rebellion (Jihad) has killed over 150,000 people and stunted economic growth in the mineral rich but impoverished southern region.

Mainstream Islamic organisations 'share al-Qaeda ideology'

U.K.: Report states that ideology of “non-violent Islamists” differs from that of violent jihadists “only on tactics”

Once again, when we or any non-Muslims say something like this, we’re racists, xenophobes, Islamophobes, and so forth. The Quilliam Foundation is not without its issues (especially with regard to its co-director Ed Husain), but it will be interesting to see what response this report generates without the usual charges of Islamophobia to be issued as a red herring. Still, a robust and meaningful response is all too likely wishful thinking until proven otherwise.

Saudi columnist misunderstands Islam, says “There is no Islam without jihad”

The report, sent to the government’s Office for Security and Counter Terrorism (OSCT), was not intended for publication but has now been leaked on the internet.

Entitled “Preventing terrorism, where next for Britain?” it says the ideology of non-violent Islamists is “broadly the same as that of violent Islamists” adding “they disagree only on tactics.”

A little something we like to call Stealth Jihad.

It produces a list of those it believes are “non-violent Islamists” and adds: “These are a selection of the various groups and institutions active in the UK which are broadly sympathetic to Islamism.

“Whilst only a small proportion will agree with al-Qaeda’s tactics, many will agree with their overall goal of creating a single ‘Islamic state’ which would bring together all Muslims around the world under a single government and then impose on them a single interpretation of sharia as state law.”

The document adds that if the government engages with such groups “it risks empowering proponents of the ideology, if not the methodology, that is behind terrorism.”

Quilliam argues that the government needs to move beyond tackling those who advocate violent extremism to target those that espouse similar but non-violent views.

Their views are thought to hold sway as the Coalition conducts a major review of the government’s Prevent counter-terrorism strategy.

A Home Office spokesman said the report had not been solicited but added: “We believe the Prevent programme isn’t working as effectively as it could and want a strategy that is effective and properly focused – that is why we are reviewing it.”

The list sent to the OSCT includes a unit within Scotland Yard called the Muslim Contact Unit and another independent group designed to improve the relationship between the police and the Muslim community called the Muslim Safety Forum.

It also includes the Muslim Council of Britain, one of the main groups representing Muslims in Britain, and its rival the Muslim Association of Britain.

Other groups on the list are the Islamic Human Rights Commission, the Federation of Student Islamic Societies and the Cordoba Foundation.

Quilliam also singles out the Islam Channel, a satellite TV channel which has been the subject of one of their reports.

Among the mosques identified are Finsbury Park mosque in North London, formerly run by the extremist preacher Abu Hamza but now under new management, along with East London Mosque and Birmingham Central mosque.

Politicians described as “Islamist backed” include Salma Yaqoob, leader of the Respect Party, and the former Respect MP George Galloway….

Seven Israeli Arabs affiliated with al-Qaida and Global Jihad have been arrested for allegedly murdering a taxi driver last year, and carrying out a series of terrorist attacks, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) revealed on Monday.In a joint police-Shin Bet operation, Ahmed Ahmed, 21, Jalib Janam, 26, Wassim Allam, 23, Khidar Ziddana, 22, Ahbed Abu-Salim, 19, Adi Azzam, 23, and Oman Kakhibi, 22, all Nazareth residents, were arrested between May 11 and June 21. All seven were indicted Monday at the Haifa district court.

Avi Elgrisi, Head of Amakim Police’s Central Unit told The Jerusalem Post that “this is one of the most dangerous cells we have uncovered.” The investigation was initially focused on two suspects, before being widened to include seven other suspects, he said, adding that police are expected to make more arrests in connection with the investigation.

The seven said that they founded a group called Aljahabiyya and claim to follow Salafism, an extremist Sunni Islamic movement. Aljahabiyya was formed two years ago, and inspired by and affiliated with al-Qaida and Global Jihad. The group underwent a process of radicalization, using material found on the Internet, including pictures of weaponry and instructions to prepare explosives and perpetrate terrorist attacks. The seven downloaded al-Qaida propaganda movies and speeches by Osama Bin Laden.

“They accessed the Internet for jihadi ideology and indoctrination, and used it as an information source to listen to extremist clerics,” Elgrisi said.
