Rich and poor nations alike criticized a new blueprint for a U.N. climate treaty on Friday as two weeks of talks among 185 countries ended with small steps towards an elusive deal…

The new draft text keeps some elements of the Copenhagen Accord, including a plan for aid to developing nations of $10 billion a year from 2010 to 2012, rising to more than $100 billion from 2020.

Australian delegate Robert Owen-Jones announced in Bonn that Canberra was contributing 559 million Australian dollars ($469 million) to the 2010-12 funds.

Er, how much exactly? And entrusted to whose hot little hands?

THE fix is in. The Rudd Government has purged the refugee bureaucrats most likely to knock back applications from asylum seekers.

And it’s replaced many with activists more likely to let them in.

The political payoff for the Government? This should help empty the embarrassingly full detention centres a bit faster.

The statistics tell the story.

Last week the Refugee Review Tribunal announced which of its 43 members applying for reappointment would be kept, and which sacked.

An unusually high number – 18 – were shown the door, including a former Labor MP, Noel Pullen.

Furious RRT insiders have checked the case records of these 43 to see how they handled appeals by asylum seekers wanting a review of Immigration Department decisions to turn them down and send them home.

The 25 RRT members who were reappointed last week have, over the past three years, rejected appeals by asylum seekers in 62 per cent of cases.

In contrast, the 18 RRT members who were sacked rejected 78 per cent of appeals. What’s more, the toughest four RRT members were all sacked.

Betraying our Israeli allies for cheap spin

Greg Sheridan agrees that Kevin Rudd’s decision to throw out an Israeli diplomat smacks of the cheapest and nasiest kind of spin:

This is a government obsessed with the management of the daily media cycle… But it is very low-grade behaviour to ruin a key relationship such as that with Israel for domestic political advantage.

Sheridan doesn’t mention another factor I think is crucial to understanding this wild and damaging overreaction – Rudd’s desperate desire to woo Muslim nations in his campaign for a UN Security Council seat. About which, this latest news of Rudd-bestowed but taxpayer-funded junkets:

This week, for example, (Foreign Affairs Minister Stephen Smith) was allowed to host the opening of the Botswana High Commission. In Canberra. On Africa Day. You might think nobody would turn up for that, but you’d be wrong. The Australian government flew journalists in from South Africa, Sierra Leone, Uganda and Zimbabwe for the event (curiously, not from Botswana). Such was the enthusiasm of Smith’s department for this event, they called it “Batswana” in the media release. We suppose he corrected this in the speech, which basically was aimed at getting Australia a seat on the UN Security Council but dressed up as concern for Africans.

KRudd steals your cash to advertise he’s a liar

For those of you who haven’t seen the first ad (and that in itself would take some doing), it is a slick little production promoting the government’s revamp of the health system. The ad is interesting for all the wrong reasons – first, for the almost complete absence of information that the public actually needs to know and, second, for the thinly disguised party-political messages in the voice-over.

‘’Has Australia forged foreign passports before? I believe it has occured…”

Apparently Opposition foreign affairs spokesman Julie Bishop has made a terrible gaffe by telling the truth and exposing the hypocrisy behind the Rudd Government’s huffing over Israel:

In an interview with The Age online, Ms Bishop said it would be naive to think ‘’Israel is the only country … that has used forged passports, including Australian passports, for security operations’’. When asked, ‘’What? We do?’’ she said ‘’yes’’.

Later she said: ‘’Has Australia forged foreign passports before? You’ll have to ask the Foreign Minister.’’ Pressed on what she thought, she said: ‘’I believe that it has occurred.’’

But in a statement later, she denied having told The Age online that Australian intelligence agencies had forged the passports of other nations.

‘’My responses were referring to the fact that forged Australian passports have been used previously … I have no knowledge of any Australian authority forging any passports of any nation.’’

Bishop’s real gaffe is to retreat under fire from what she correctly said. A Paul Keating would have gone in even harder.

When he’s not expelling Israeli diplomats to appease Muslim countries, he’s offering aid bribes to African ones who may likewise back Kevin Rudd’s desperate campaign for a temporary seat on the UN Security Council:

AUSTRALIA will pump more than $400 million in foreign aid into Africa by 2015, as Prime Minister Kevin Rudd chases a seat on the United Nations Security Council.

Aid funding for Africa will more than double – from $163 million this year – despite Australia having few historical ties with the continent.The rise in spending will see hundreds of millions spent on helping Africa develop better farming practices while thousands of “development awards” will be offered.

But the money will also help promote Australian Rules football…

Nor is that the only cost of Rudd’s vanity:

TAXPAYERS paid a massive $700,000 for Governor-General Quentin Bryce’s trek to Africa to help win Australia a seat on the UN Security Council.

Islam is seditious. Islamic doctrine is more political than religious, and its sole political goal is the domination of Islam over all over religions and all governments.

It is a Muslim’s religious duty to achieve that political goal.

When Muslims move to a country, a certain percentage of them start agitating for special considerations. They start to organize and influence the nation politically in a way that is good for Islam and bad for freedom and equality. When the percentage of the Muslims in a nation’s population becomes high enough, they gain so much political power that freedoms and rights begin to disappear. (Watch this video to learn more.) Who will intercept KRudd?

This really is getting out of control:

Authorities have intercepted a suspected asylum seeker boat in waters off Australia’s northwest coast… Initial indications suggest there are 39 asylum seekers and two crew aboard the boat.

I still hear excuses (as on ABC 774 yesterday) that the sudden influx is due largely to the war in Sri Lanka – a war that actually started in 1983 and ended a year ago.  I’d suggest the graph shows that Rudd’s policies are in fact the more important explanation. not least because most asylum seekers are not Sri Lankan at all.
