The BBC has received 115 complaints over its appointment of the first Muslim to the role of head of religion and ethics.

Channel 4 executive Aaqil Ahmed was confirmed in the post on Monday, becoming only the second non-Christian – after agnostic Alan Bookbinder in 2001 – in the BBC’s 87-year history to be appointed to the role.

It is understood the “vast majority” of the complaints are about Ahmed not being a Christian.

In a statement, the BBC said: “We have received complaints from our audience regarding our decision to appoint a non-Christian as the new head of religion and ethics.

This month, I wrote a column outlining two exceptions to the no-torture rule: the ticking time bomb scenario and its less extreme variant in which a high-value terrorist refuses to divulge crucial information that could save innocent lives. The column elicited protest and opposition that were, shall we say, spirited.

And occasionally stupid. Dan Froomkin, writing for washingtonpost.com and echoing a common meme among my critics, asserted that “the ticking time bomb scenario only exists in two places: On TV and in the dark fantasies of power-crazed and morally deficient authoritarians.” (He later helpfully suggested that my moral deficiencies derived from “watching TV and fantasizing about being Jack Bauer.”)

Paula Jones, Katherine Harris, Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin and, most recently, Miss California, Carrie Prejean, have all come under a frenzy of attacks from liberals.Miss USAChristians are supposed to be fat, balding sweaty little men with bad complexions. It’s liberals who are supposed to be the sexy ones. (I know that from watching “The West Wing” and all movies starring Julia Roberts.)   

But sadly for liberals, in real life, the fat, balding sweaty little guy with the bad complexion is Perez Hilton and the smoking-hot babe is Carrie Prejean.

This apparent contradiction incites violent anger in liberals, triggering their famous “fight or flight” response. So liberal masturbators are, once again, launching furious attacks on a beautiful Christian in a fit of pique similar to the one directed at Joan of Arc.

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front doesn’t seem to have any problem using civilian hostages in furthering the goals of its jihad.

Evidently this group is filled with still more Misunderstanders of Islam, right? Because we all know that this kind of behavior is not sanctioned in Islam, right?

In reality, procedures dictating what to do with hostages are deeply rooted in Islamic legal thought. The Shafi’i jurist al-Mawardi explained that Muslims who took hostages had four options: “As for the captives, the amir [ruler] has the choice of taking the most beneficial action of four possibilities: the first to put them to death by cutting their necks; the second, to enslave them and apply the laws of slavery regarding their sale and manumission; the third, to ransom them in exchange for goods or prisoners; and fourth, to show favor to them and pardon them. Allah, may he be exalted, says, ‘When you encounter those [infidels] who deny [the Truth=Islam] then strike [their] necks’ (Qur’an sura 47, verse 4)” – al-Ahkam as-Sultaniyyah, (The Laws of Islamic Governance).

In this case they were freed, once they had served their purpose as human shields.

Is the BNP really as awful as Rod Liddle claims?

* If you speak out against Islam and dhimmitude you will be vilified, accused from bigotry to hatred and Islamophobia, and possibly dragged through the courts, regardless which political belief’s you hold. In the UK, the BNP is the only party that promises to somehow  reverse the galloping Islamization, and that’s why the BNP is picking up votes. But are they really as bad as Rod Liddle makes out?

Guess what song is Nick Griffin’s ring tone. I was standing next to the British National party leader in a BBC green room last week when his mobile phone rang. Cue chiming guitar – it was Sweet Home Alabama. You guessed Ebony and Ivory, didn’t you? No, what Nick had blaring out of his phone was moderate, acceptable racism – a paean to the segregationist governor of Alabama and two-time presidential candidate George Wallace (who, before he died, rather movingly apologised to black people for his hideous policies).

It is sort of okay to play Sweet Home Alabama in polite company, a catchy howl of disenfranchised redneck southern anguish. There is no mention of black people in the song, it’s all in Lynyrd Skynyrd’s semi-coherent good ol’ boy subtext. It is, I think, how Griffin would like to see the BNP now – incorrigible, anti-Establishment, un-PC, telling a few home truths. Fifteen or 20 years ago I suspect his ring tone would have been by Wagner, and before that the Horst Wessell song. Except they didn’t have ring tones then, obviously.

Perhaps Abbas Taj should consider himself a lucky man.

He is a trustee of Muslim Prisoner Support Group, a British charity. It campaigns for convicted and suspected Islamist terrorists and supporters of terrorism, such as Omar Abdel Rahman and Babar Ahmad (pdf).

Well, Taj needs the services of his own outfit now. He has been found guilty of firebombing the London home of publisher Martin Rynja in September 2008.

Rynja planned to publish the novel Jewel of Medina. Abbas Taj and his accomplices Ali Beheshti and Abrar Mirza chose fire as his punishment.

Fortunately the police were all over the trio. Officers followed them on the night of the attack and arrested Beheshti and Mirza at the scene. The fire was quickly put out.

The men were under surveillance by police who had warned Martin Rynja, 43, and his partner, to move out of their four-storey townhouse, which had an office in the basement. More>>

Common Sense Atheism linked to a video the other day about fertility rates in Europe and in Muslim countries. The point of the video is to say that Europe will be predominantly Muslim within fifty years or less, as a result of low birthrates among native Europeans and high birthrates among Muslim immigrants. I’ve seen these arguments over the past few years. It’s stuff promoted mainly by American Right-wing Christians, often with dire warnings that Europe will be Islamicized within 50 years, and America will stand alone in the world. For example, here’s a sample:

If there is anything that should make Americans’ blood run cold about immigration, it is the sight of Europe—and Britain, the home of Western civilization—being buried by millions of Muslim colonists. Europe is just hoping against hope that Islam isn’t going to explode into massive rioting (or worse), or impose total cultural Islamification.

Filipino maid hurt in bid to get away
 

KUWAIT CITY : A Filipino housemaid has been referred to a hospital with serious injuries, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
According to reports she was injured after she fell down while attempting to escape from her sponsor in Riqei.
She allegedly made a rope by tying bed covers together and was attempting to climb down from the fifth floor apartment. The ‘rope’ snapped when she reached midway and she fell to the ground.

While browsing the web, yesterday, I viewed the Arab Times online site and came across several news articles about the rape and abuse of maids in Kuwait. I was surprised at the cluster of cases so I searched the web for more information and was nearly knocked off my chair when I realized the enormous extent of the huge numbers of foreign maids suffering abuse at the hands of their Middle East “sponsors”.  To use the term “maid” is a misnomer – these women (and boys) are nothing more than modern day SLAVES.  Slaves to be abused, raped, tortured, maimed, and killed. 

Many of these maids come into the Middle East (particularly Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Lebanon) from Indonesia, the Phillipines, Sri Lanka and Ethiopia – smaller numbers come from India and Bangladesh. Saudi Arabia has the largest number of these imported domestics estimated at 200,000 in 2004. These maids are seen as inferiors to their Middle Eastern masters and many countries do not even recognize them as being covered by labor laws – including minimum wage:

“The plight of domestic workers in Lebanon rose to the spotlight during the summer of 2006, when Israel launched a thirty-four-day military offensive on Lebanon. In Arabic, the term “Abed” is used to denote a “black” person or “slave” and the word is sometimes heard in reference to Africans or Sri Lankans. Non-Arab Afro-Asian migrants in Lebanon are physically looked upon as inferior due to their positions as servants. These workers remain excluded under Article 6 of Lebanese labour laws and are often victims of abuse by both employers and agencies.” LINK

The vast majority of these women are seeking an opportunity to earn money and send remittances back to their families – 

“…….Phillipines, where the economy relies heavily on remittances from nearly eight million Filipinos working overseas. Of that eight million, about 73,000 work in Kuwait.Some 60,000 are women employed mainly as maids and earning less than $200 a month on average, labor groups say.

Some of these woman do quickly realize the danger and manage to escape in a few days. But, many of the remaining “servants” are left in a living nightmare.
