Turkey to EU: No visa-free, no clampdown on migrants

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS (H/T Peperud) Turkey is happy to sign a migrant readmission deal with the EU, but expects the Union to start talks on visa-free travel if it wants to see a clampdown on people sneaking into Greece, a senior diplomat has said.

Noting that the EU has lifted visa requirements for “remote countries,” such as Paraguay and Uruguay, and started visa-free talks with Moldova, Russia and Ukraine, but not Turkey, Ankara’s chief negotiator on EU accession, Egemen Bagis, said: “It’s time to put an end to this nonsense.”

Speaking at a gathering of EU officials and diplomats at the European Policy Centre think-tank in Brussels on Thursday morning (27 January), Mr Bagis lambasted the EU for calling on Ankara to stem irregular migration from Africa and Asia while giving it nothing on visas.

A demand for jiziya/tribute:

“We’re willing to help the EU, but it’s also a matter of taxation,” he said, referring Turkish tax income used to fund the anti-migrant operations. “When our citizens are insulted on a daily basis in the consulates of EU states [when they apply for visas], one may ask the question as to why we should help the EU with their problems, when we are treated this way. Turkey is not an emirate, public opinion does matter. We need to see some good will from the side of the EU.”

Senior Turkish Minister Calls Christians ‘Kuffar’

Update:

Midnight Express to the 7th Century:

Our  expensive friends, the Turks

Turkish Work & Social Security Minister (and Borat lookalike) Faruk Çelik calls it how he sees it when it comes to filthy unbelievers

As if there weren’t enough evidence already, a Senior Minister lets slip what Turkey’s ruling class really thinks of non-Muslims:

Members of the Christian community in Turkey have called on State Minister Faruk Çelik to make an apology over his remarks which they said had insulted their religion.

“The minister has scorned Christians just to suppress rightful demands of the Alevis in Turkey,” Yuhannas Aktas, head of the Syriac Culture Association in Midyat, who was referring to Çelik’s labelling of Christianity as the religion of the ‘gavur’ (‘kafir’), a word meaning “infidel” in Turkish, which is often regarded as a degrading expression by non-Muslims.

Merkel: The Mosque Munich Has to Have

“A mosque in Munich would be an important message for world peace.” (or else!)

Today the council of Munich wanted to bury the Sendling mosque project officially. The resistance was too large in the population – and to small the financial possibilities of the owner, the mosque association Ditim. In a last ditch effort,  Turkish “European Minister” Egemen Bagis (photo l. with Angela Merkel with their Turkey visit in March) offered lucrative assistance from Turkey (?)

“A mosque in Munich would be an important message for the world peace. I would support the project gladly”, so Bagis to the local Munich Merkur. And further: “The Muslim world will not leave those Munich Muslims behind….” (more from PI, in German: Finanzspritze aus Türkei für Sendlinger Moschee? )

Did you know that Turkey has a “Europe Minister?”

Turkey wants justice (sharia) in EU bid, Bagis says

When a Muslim talks about ‘justice’ he means sharia. Everything else is ‘unjust’

Turkish chief negotiator said that Turkey prepared the constitutional amendment package to upgrade living standards of Turkish people.  (More mosques, the better!)

France’s glamorous former justice minister Rachida Dati confused oral sex with rising prices as she launched an attack on foreign investment funds.

Rachida Dati was dropped from the French government last year after her penchant for designer dresses and appearing on the covers of celebrity magazines prompted criticism that a senior minister should not engage in such frivolity.

She is now a member of the European parliament.  (SMH)

Turkey's Religious Tolerance: After 88 Years, Christians are Allowed to Worship at Sumela Monastery

Newsflash:

Pilgrims evacuated after bomb threat at Lourdes

PARIS – Thousands of people, many disabled or ailing, were evacuated Sunday from the shrine at Lourdes in southern France after a bomb threat on the Catholic holy day of Assumption. The pilgrims returned after explosives experts scoured the area. Associated Press

Orthodox Christians from Russian Federation, Greece, Georgia and the U.S. poured in Trabzon, a Turkish city by the Black Sea Coast, for an historic mass at the Sumela Monastery which was closed to worship for 88 years.

Good Dhimmi: Greek Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew said Turkey’s courtesy, allowing Orthodox Christians to hold a historic mass at Sumela, was a praiseworthy act for Christians.

“We owe this day of worship to our government which was kind enough to grant us the permission. We are most thankful as this day is sacred for not only believers in Black Sea but for all Orthodox and Christian world as its the Assumption Day of Mother Mary. We are blessed to celebrate this day here in Sumela.

First it is a grace of God then it is a grace of government,” said the Patriarch.  (Turkey, World Bulletin)

Inner Struggle in Turkey: a Bishop Beheaded; Allahu Akbar!

Turkey: Bishop’s assassin shouted “Allah akbar,” and “I killed the great Satan!”

The bishop was stabbed in the heart eight times and decapitated…. but hey: nothing to do with Islam. You know the drill…..

The ability of the all-too-standard “insanity” defense to explain away this attack is getting weaker all the time. “Funeral of Mgr. Padovese. Murderer, ‘I killed the great Satan!’,” by Geries Othman for Asia News, via JW

The autopsy reveal that Mgr. Padovese had knife wounds all over his body, but especially in the heart (at least 8). His head was almost completely detached from his neck, attached to his body by only the skin of the back of the neck.

the murderer had told police that he his actions were the result of a ” divine revelation.”…

Muhammad had one of those, too, interestingly: “Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks…” (Qur’an 47:4). Does Muhammad get an insanity defense?

Update:

According to police sources, it seems that Murat is offering a new justification for his action: Mgr. Padovese was a homosexual, Murat, 26, was the victim, “forced to suffer abuse.” The killing of the bishop was not martyrdom, but an act of “legitimate defence”.

Hmm. They tried that one when they murdered Eugene Terrreblanche, did anyone believe it?

“It’s already enough that you don’t worship Allah, so . . . that’s a reason for you to die”

“Unbelief is worse than slaughter…”

in saying that “it’s already enough that you don’t worship Allah, so . . . that’s a reason for you to die,” this jihadist confirms that Islamic hardliners don’t view non-Muslims as innocent — thus rendering meaningless the condemnations of attacks on “innocent people” that have been issued by Islamic advocacy groups with unsavory ties to jihad terror.

Turkish ambassador calls for engaging Hamas in “final solution” negotiations

Islamization Watch presents:

Turkish Ambassador Namik Tan is looking for a ‘final solution’ on the Israel issue!

‘For a final solution, you cannot ignore Hamas. That’s what we are saying,’ said Ambassador Namik Tan. ‘This is not the first time that we are trying to bring this into the discussion. We have told this to the Israelis, to our American friends, to our international interlocutors, everyone. How could you imagine a final solution without Hamas?

Indeed. Sheik yer’mami supports a Final Solution.  Exterminate Hamas!

Iran: Former parliament speaker says jihad flotilla “the beginning of the end for Israel”

He also called Israelis “enemies of humanity.” And he wonders which country is “the real danger” in the region. That’s easy: the one spouting genocidal rhetoric. As world berates Israel on flotilla, Turkey true aggressor

With so much coverage of this story, and most of it attacks on Israel, the media failed to report on the real story behind the “freedom flotilla” and that is Turkey, which used to be the most advanced, modern Islamic country. Turkey knows about the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza. They know that Israel and Hamas are in a state of war. They have willfully sent these ships to challenge Israel, knowing full well that some of the people on the ships will be in harm’s way.

Time to Dump Turkey

Andrew Bolt

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk forced modern Turkey to be secular and West-looking. His heirs even make Turkey an Israeli ally and NATO partner, but how dangerously it’s now sliding into another radical Islamic state:

TURKEY’S Prime Minister says he doesn’t view radical Palestinian group Hamas, Israel’s arch-foe, as a terrorist organisation.

“Our problem is not with the Israeli or the Jewish people. Our problem is with the oppressive Israeli administration which commits state terror,” he said.

The new Caliph?  Turkish PM Erdogan a hero with Islamists!

“Hamas are resistance fighters who are struggling to defend their land. They have won an election,” Recep Tayyip Erdogan said yesterday in a speech broadcast live on television.

“I have told this to US officials… I do not accept Hamas as a terrorist organisation…”

The United States and the European Union blacklist Hamas as a terrorist group despite its victory in Palestinian elections in 2006.

Mr Erdogan made the remarks in an angry tirade against Israel after Monday’s raid on a flotilla carrying aid to the Gaza Strip, which claimed the lives of nine Turks …

The Wall Street Journal wonders how much the Turkish Government was behind an Islamist plot to make a pariah of Israel:

So the Prime Minister of Turkey calls Israel “a festering boil in the Middle East that spreads hate and enmity,” while his foreign minister compares Monday’s Israeli naval raid on a flotilla of ships headed for the Gaza Strip, in which nine passengers were killed, to the attacks of September 11, 2001…

A child points his finger and shouts religious slogans during the funeral of a victim of the Israeli naval commandos raid at the Beyazit mosque in Istanbul, Turkey, Friday, June 4, 2010.

Yet the more facts that come to light about the flotilla, its passengers and their sponsors, the more it seems clear that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Ergodan’s government, far more so than Israel’s, must be held to account for Monday’s violent episode… The Turkish accounting should begin with a full explanation from the government of its relationship with the IHH, an Istanbul-based Islamic “charity” that purchased three of the six boats used in the flotilla from the city government, sent hundreds of its activists along with it, and reportedly has ties to Turkey’s ruling Islamist AKP Party.

That attitude conforms with the general pattern of Mr. Erdogan’s foreign policy. For all his denunciations of Israel’s alleged brutality in Monday’s raid, he was among the first foreign leaders to congratulate Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for his “victory” in last year’s presidential election.

Links:

The IHH—the Turkish acronym for the “Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief”—has widely reported links to Hamas, the terrorist group that runs Gaza and most directly threatens Israel. Moreover, in the 2001 Seattle trial of Ahmed Ressam, the would-be Millennium bomber, French counterterrorism magistrate Jean-Louis Bruguiere testified that the IHH had played an “important role” in Ressam’s plot to bomb LAX airport on New Year’s Day, 2000, and that there was “a rather close relation” between the bomber and the Turkish group…

Yet knowing all this, the Turkish government made no effort to prevent the flotilla from setting sail. The government also seems unembarrassed that the IHH belongs to a Saudi-based umbrella group of Islamic charities known as “The Union of the Good,” which the U.S. Treasury designated a terrorist organization in November 2008. On the contrary, Mr. Erdogan has been outspoken in his calls for the world to recognize Hamas, even as his relations with the more moderate Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas have been notably cool.

UPDATE

Charles Krauthammer:

The whole point of this relentless international campaign is to deprive Israel of any legitimate form of self-defense.The world is tired of these troublesome Jews, six million — that number again — hard by the Mediterranean, refusing every invitation to national suicide. For which they are relentlessly demonized, ghettoized and constrained from defending themselves, even as the more committed anti-Zionists — Iranian in particular — openly prepare a more final solution.

UPDATE 2

An interview with the sergeant who killed six of the people on board the Mavi Marmara:

Looking to his side, he saw three of his commanders lying wounded – one with a gunshot wound to the stomach and another with a gunshot wound to the knee. A third was lying unconscious; his skull was fractured by a devastating blow with a metal bar…He pushed the wounded soldiers up against the wall of the upper deck and created a perimeter of soldiers around them to begin treating their wounds, he said. He then arranged his men to form a second perimeter, and pulled out his 9 mm. Glock pistol to stave off the charging attackers and to protect his wounded comrades. The attackers had already seized two pistols from the commandos, and fired repeatedly at them. Facing more than a dozen of the mercenaries, and convinced their lives were in danger, he and his colleagues opened fire, he said. S. singlehandedly killed six men. His colleagues killed another three.

Re-Islamicized Turkey Turns a Corner, Turns Against, Attacks Israel

Today’s attack on Israel was a  military operation from the re-islamicized Turkey, with the tacit support of the Erdogan government. Turkey intends to become a regional power, perhaps a return of the Ottoman empire.

Turkey has recalled its Ambassador form Israel and called it an act of piracy on the high seas after supporting the convoy of war ships.

The Muzz infested United Nations condemns Israel (as usual)

Israel:

It seems the Israeli soldiers had no idea how violent this would get:

Israeli military officials said the soldiers were carrying paint-ball guns and had orders to use their pistols only to defend themselves.  They said the activists took the guns from two of the soldiers and used them to fire at the commandos, who then returned fire.

They were mobbed, they were clubbed, they were beaten, stabbed. … Our soldiers had to defend themselves, defend their lives, or they would have been killed.”

Violent protests break out in several cities, including Paris, which is reminded of a little Gaza of its own:

Turkey: A war between the pious and the less pious

Both sides hate Jews….

Similarly, for the seculars/secularists the war is between “us secular Muslims” and “them pious Muslims.”

A Turkish perspective, from BURAK BEKDÄ°L/Daily News

“pious” means “pious like us,” and non-Muslim means “officially Muslim but not sufficiently pious,” or “not pious like us.” From that perspective, the war is between “us the pious” and “them not so pious.” Similarly, for the seculars/secularists the war is between “us secular Muslims” and “them pious Muslims.”

Sadly, both camps view each other as “the enemy” although they belong to the same faith. But same-faith wars, in any of the monotheistic religions, have never been too few throughout the history. We have seen wars between religions, wars between different sects of the same religion, and today what we see in Turkey is a war between different understandings of practicing the same religion.

Bernard Lewis predicted that in a decade the secular republic founded by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk might more closely resemble the Islamic Republic of Iran.

It might not take that long, but it will happen.

Turkey  is fighting  a religious war. Not between two religions. Not between the faithful and the atheists. It is largely a war between people of the same faith but with different grades of observance.

A piercing question remains: How could those who are at a savage war with less or more pious people of their own faith be at peace with other faiths, or with agnostics or atheists?

Another question which the writer is not asking is this: will the takeover be bloody or unbloody?  I predict the latter. But heads will roll and blood will flow once the Islamists are in power…..

For 250 years, Turkey's presence in Europe was invariably as an armed invader in Christian lands

Not sure where the author of this article took the 250 years from, because Mohammedanism has been trying to conquer Europe  for at least 1300 years now.

Allures of a Megalomaniac:

New Erdogan Slogan:

“Turkey is no longer a country who’s affairs are determined from abroad. Turkey is a country that dictates the affairs of the world…”

Kevin Myers: For 250 years, Turkey’s presence in Europe was invariably as an armed invader in Christian lands

Independent.ie

In other words: jihad to make the world Islamic

How come every Muselmaniac knows what we are desperately trying to ignore?

President McAleese’s strong endorsement of Turkey’s membership of the EU is, presumably, government policy. But why? How is full Turkish membership of the EU in our interests, when the emigrants from both countries will be competing for jobs in mainland Europe?

Or is it simply an ideological issue, in which we faithfully follow the EU party-line as once good Communists adhered to the diktats from the Comintern?

The largely undiscussed reason to worry about Turkish membership of the EU is the most delicate: religion. But Turkey is eager to present itself as an agent of the Islamic world: they recently even proposed making an “Islamic car” (whatever that is) with Malaysia. When the Danish prime minister Lars Rasmussen was proposed as head of NATO, the Turkish PM, Racip Tayyip Erdogan, alleged that the Dane’s handling of the Mohammed-cartoons issue had made him unpopular in the Muslim world. So Turkey is already acting as an Islamic emissary, and on an issue of free speech that goes to the very core of European secularism. For in our culture, we can call Jesus Christ a sodomite son-of-a-whore without legal consequence. But I would not even jokingly use such language about Mohammed for fear of Islamic death-squads.
