Human Rights Watch founder Richard Bernstein today joins the organization’s critics. He writes in the New York Times:

When I stepped aside in 1998, Human Rights Watch was active in 70 countries, most of them closed societies. Now the organization, with increasing frequency, casts aside its important distinction between open and closed societies.

Nowhere is this more evident than in its work in the Middle East. The region is populated by authoritarian regimes with appalling human rights records. Yet in recent years Human Rights Watch has written far more condemnations of Israel for violations of international law than of any other country in the region.

Israel, with a population of 7.4 million, is home to at least 80 human rights organizations, a vibrant free press, a democratically elected government, a judiciary that frequently rules against the government, a politically active academia, multiple political parties and, judging by the amount of news coverage, probably more journalists per capita than any other country in the world — many of whom are there expressly to cover the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Meanwhile, the Arab and Iranian regimes rule over some 350 million people, and most remain brutal, closed and autocratic, permitting little or no internal dissent. The plight of their citizens who would most benefit from the kind of attention a large and well-financed international human rights organization can provide is being ignored as Human Rights Watch’s Middle East division prepares report after report on Israel.

I hope that this is placed front and center on the special UNHRC session today as the severe human rights violation it must be. Dancing by Jews in the area of the Temple Mount should be criminalized, of course, because (like their walking, prayer, meditation and breathing) it antagonizes a billion Muslims.

By definition, anything that Arabs or Muslims find offensive must be, in fact, illegal. That is certainly the premise behind the UNHRC, which seems dedicated to the elimination of just one such instance of this offensiveness

Throughout the events on the Temple Mount over the past couple of weeks, there was plenty of incitement by Palestinian Arab clerics like Sheikh Tamimi and Sheikh Raed Salah, who publicly claim daily that Israel is planning to divide and destroy the Temple Mount.

It will be years before we even know how much KRudd is paying to bribe Indonesia while occupying the Australian public with the so called oil for food scandal. (As if anybody could sell anything in Iraq without bribing the regime in then days!)

The Muslim community in Rheinfelden/Germany got approval to build a mosque with a minaret on condition that no loudspeakers be attached and that no amplified call to prayer would annoy  nearby residents. As soon as the building was completed, the muezzin started to wail and howl over 3 powerful loudspeakers and annoyed the hell out of the neighborhood. Now, because of the upcoming referendum in nearby Switzerland (a citizens initiative has already collected over 120.000 signatures against mosques and minarets) some think the muslims gave away the game to soon….

So, according to the latest news from Jihad Watch Germany,  the soldiers of Allah removed the loudspeakers (for now) since it was “childish and  thoughtless”. Lets see what they say after the Swiss had their referendum.

Vatican supports call to teach Islam
