Opposition Leader Tony Abbott said there was “understandable concern in the community” about people wearing the burqa, but a ban was not Coalition policy… Premier John Brumby attacked the call, accusing proponents of taking a “cynical view” of the world… A spokesman for Prime Minister Kevin Rudd refused to comment on the burqa.

    • TWO Syrian brothers bashed and kidnapped two other men in a brutal revenge attack after being subjected to years of racial vilification, a court has heard.

    Will the spin and the grievance theater never end? Perhaps Jordanna Schrievers heart bleeds also for this guy:

    Today the District Court heard the brothers, who cannot be identified because one was a youth at the time, used phone messages to lure their victims into meeting them at a Golden Grove basketball court early on Christmas Day in 2007.

    They are charged with aggravated assault causing harm and kidnapping.

    With two other men, they allegedly beat their victims using metal poles and other weapons including large knives, and tied them up, putting one in the boot and the other inside their car.

    The man in the boot was later dumped near Gumeracha.

    Dr Peter Salu, prosecuting, said a mobile phone had captured a 15-minute “chilling and graphic recording” of the assault.  More

    Their identities are suppressed because one was a youth at the time.

    The Islamic Friendship Association of Australia’s Keysar Trad says it’s possible organisers did not realise Anwar al-Awlaki was an Al Qaeda recruiter when they hired him to give a sermon at a Sydney mosque. He wasn’t at the mosque, you see, and there was nothing on the internet either, and he wasn’t told anything, knows nothing….. blah blah…..

    AN AL-QAEDA recruiter, described as the No. 1 terrorist threat to America, was engaged by a Sydney youth group to address hundreds of young people – a decision that has caused deep divisions at one of Australia’s largest mosques.

    At the same time as Anwar al-Awlaki was advising the extremist later charged with killing 13 people at Fort Hood in Texas, he was in talks with a group, Sydney Muslim Youth, about delivering a sermon to young Australians. He was already well known to security agencies as the spiritual guide to three of the hijackers on September 11, 2001…

    The Herald attended the sermon at the Lakemba mosque in February last year but was ejected by organisers…

    According to a director of the mosque, Ziad Ghamraoui, Shady Alsuleiman was in charge of organising evening youth events at the time of the sermon. Sheikh Shady refused to comment… IslamicMedia.com.au, an initiative of the Shady-affiliated United Muslims of Australia, streamed but did not record the speech and has 15 other audio sermons from the imam.

    Shady is a contradiction of those bland assurances that the second generation will assimilate as the first did not:

He completed his School Certificate in Sydney before heading overseas on a seven year journey seeking Islamic knowledge in the Islamic world… He operates from Australia’s largest Masjid and Islamic centre (Masjid Ali Bin Abi Taleb, known as Lakemba Mosque).

    And he’s formed an Islamic college in Sydney that now has five teachers. One is the Sydney-born Rameh Zoud, who was interviewed six years ago by the ABC in Yemen, where he was studying Islam at a school in a town in al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden’s ancestral homeland:

    Several hundred people have rallied at Flinders Street railway station to protest against racism.

    The protesters are gathering ahead of a planned anti-immigration and anti-Islam protest, later today.

    Trade union officials, religious leaders and political activists have all addressed the crowd.

    Victorian Trades Hall council secretary Brian Boyd had this message.

    “We will not tolerate racism in this country. We will not tolerate fascism in this country. We will not tolerate discrimination of any kind in this country,” he said.

    No. Of course not. As long as its anti- white, anti-Semitic, anti-Christian and pro-Islamic its really cool…..

    So why did Kevin Rudd suddenly get tough on boat people? Was it because his weaker laws had caused too many boats to land? Had lured 53 boat people to their deaths? Had cost taxpayers countless millions? Had poisoned relations with Indonesia? Had helped queue-jumpers to push ahead of real refugees?

    None of the above. Laurie Oakes explains, without a word of criticism:

    The Prime Minister was advised by strategists weeks ago that he had to act. Border control, they told him, posed an election risk in key marginal seats.

    I guess KRudd needs to establish a new rubber stamp bureaucracy to deal with this.  The bleeding hearts over at the ABC are already whining over this “inhumanity”

    Another boat, and nearly more deaths, forces the Rudd Government to announce that these poor refugees are probably not fleeing danger, after all:

    All new asylum seeker claims from Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are being suspended, as news emerges that 70 people were rescued from a sinking asylum boat off Christmas Island early this morning.

    Immigration Minister Chris Evans says the Government has decided to implement the processing suspension due to “changing conditions” in both countries…

    This means any new asylum seekers now arriving in Australian waters from those two countries will not have their refugee applications processed until the suspension is lifted.

    The suspension comes as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees reviews the international protection guidelines for both countries.

    But, but, but… weren’t they fleeing ”genocide” Wasn’t this flood of boats caused by ”new conflicts” and overseas ”push factors”?

    It seems to me from this that Immigration Minister Chris Evans is now admitting the Government lied all along in denying its policies had lured so many thousands here in boats:

    The changes we’re announcing today send a strong message to people smugglers that they cannot guarantee a visa outcome for their clients.

    So it really was the guaranteed visa outcome that people smugglers were advertising that drew so many boats here? Then why didn’t Rudd just say so a few dozen boats ago?

    A JUDGE has slammed a 000 operator’s reaction to an Afghan woman who called complaining of domestic violence days before her death.

    Soltan Ahmad Azizi, 46, strangled his wife Marzeih Rahimi with her veil after complaining she had become “too Australian”, the Herald Sun reports.

    Sentencing Azizi to a minimum of 17-and-a-half years behind bars, Justice Betty King said police should have been there for Ms Rahimi after she called 000 for help just days before her death.

    Ms Rahimi, a mother of five, was killed in front of the couple’s three-month old baby and toddler, 22 months, in their Hampton Park home in November 2007.  More>>

    Victorian police deem Christanity to be offensive.

    According to a report from the ABC an Easter Crucifix re-enactment was shut down by the Victorian police even though there were apparently no complaints.  Instead officers invoked the ‘reasonable man’ clause which permits police to shutdown an event they think would offend the public.

    Given the rank political correctness of the Victorian government, its a fair guess on which segment of the public would find expressions of Christianity offensive and why the police would invoke a hitherto unknown power to shut it down. Continued below the fold>>

    Australia is being flooded with illegal welfare seekers…

    Capacity exceeded on Christmas Island

    CHRISTMAS Island detention facilities are likely to tip over official capacity today despite a charter flight taking 53 people to the mainland.

    There are now 1920 people in immigration detention on Christmas Island and 120 spare beds, but interpreters and Customs are now at Flying Fish Cove preparing to receive about 140 asylum seekers from boats intercepted last month.

    Official capacity is about 2040, a spokesman from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship said.

    Most of the people who left the island on this morning’s charter have been granted visas, and the plane delivered 12 Indonesian crew to detention in Darwin in preparation for court appearances or repatriation.

    Earlier today, Opposition immigration spokesman Scott Morrison labelled Christmas Island a “taxi service” after an asylum-seeker boat slipped though Australia’s border security and announced its arrival in a triple 0 call.
