Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Friday conferred an honorary Canadian citizenship on the Aga Khan, making the billionaire descendant of the Prophet Mohammed and spiritual leader to 15 million Ismaili Muslim followers worldwide only the fifth person to be so honoured.

And though that “citizenship” is merely a symbolic gesture, if the Aga Khan (who lives in France) were to prove a model Canadian citizen, he would not be the first among his people to do so.
“He’s going to be a tremendous addition to our country — your country,” said Shenaz Ladak of Brampton, Ont., who, with a few dozen other Ismaili Muslim Canadians, stood on a sweltering street in the Toronto suburb of Don Mills yesterday to catch a glimpse of her spiritual leader. Followers know him as Mawlana Hazar Imam.
This weekend the FBI picked up two New Jersey men at JFK airport who were intending to find their way to Somalia to train in Al-Shabaab terror camps. According to the indictment unsealed Sunday, one of the men, Carlos Almonte, said that he wanted to send Americans home “in caskets”. According to the NY Post, he also boasted,
“I’m gonna get a gun. I’m the type of person to use it anytime . . . I’ll have more bodies on it than . . . the hairs on my beard. You know what I’m saying? It’s already enough that you don’t worship Allah, so . . . that’s a reason for you to die.”
But we can reveal exclusively here at Jawa that Carlos Almonte was the infamous “Death to all Juice” guy (hey, maybe he can take Helen Thomas’ spot in the WH press corps?). The picture below, which Almonte posted on his Facebook page, shows him in action.
In Human Events today I skewer media bias regarding the latest jihad news in the U.S.:
How biased is the liberal media? No more or less biased than Barack Obama. Both have made it a matter of policy not to mention “Islam” in connection with “terrorism,” and to look resolutely the other way when Islamic jihadists justify their actions by referring to Islamic texts and teachings.So millions of Americans are completely clueless about the nature of the threat we’re facing–understandably, since they simply never have been told. A case in point of how this deceptive game works comes in a Sunday Reuters story about two Islamic jihadists who were arrested at JFK Airport on their way to Somalia to join the jihad there.
This story is not a particularly egregious example of media bias. In fact, it’s fairly straightforward (not to say remotely objective), but it reflects what passes for acceptable practices among “journalists” these days.
What details does Reuters think are the most salient details in this case? We learn that the people arrested are “men,” and that they’re “unmarried American citizens” and “residents of New Jersey.” They were planning to join a “militant group” in Somalia, one that Reuters describe as a “youth movement”–you know, like the Boy Scouts with beheadings.
Reuters adds that the arrests had something to do with the men’s “social circle.” It’s unclear what they meant by this. Were these men part of a criminal gang? Or did they plot murder and mayhem at the local mosque, as so many other Muslims have done around the world over the last few years? And if the latter, what interest does Reuters have in making them sound like a bunch of guys playing basketball instead of a band of murderous Islamic supremacists that they are?…

“The blogger-rabbi used clever verbal gymnastics to extract “incriminating evidence” and had her say: “Remember, these people are occupied. And it’s their land. Not Germany. Not Poland.”
Helen Thomas was an unreadable and unread columnist, and the only time she generates so much traffic that it crashes the site is the announcement that her career’s self-destructed. That tells you a lot about American newspapering right there. Good thing two columnists didn’t say something dumb or the site could have been out for weeks.
But what exactly did Helen say? America’s ABC was gentle:
In the opening of ABC’s “World News,” anchor Dianne Sawyer says Helen Thomas retired because of “age and outrage.” No mention of her anti-Semitic remark.

The thing that really upsets me about Helen is that for more than 30 years the entire media has known full well of her hatred, of her anti-semitism – and they did nothing. Â It was no secret – they all knew; every one of them heard her, everyone was fully aware of it. Â And yet not once did the MSM broadcast this – we were forced to do it ourselves. Â It wasn’t a CNN, CBS, NBC or ABC cameraman that taped this truth about Helen; instead, it was an independent cameraman trotting alongside her on the sidewalk that taped in 30 seconds what the media has refused to tape for 30 years – the truth about Helen’s hatred, her anti-semitism.
They all knew, each and every one of them knew about her hatred for decades – and yet they did nothing.
I am in at least partial agreement with those who suggest Helen Thomas offered a service to the rest of us by voicing what we suspected the rest of her colleagues also believe. She has removed herself from the field, so to speak, and will enjoy the remainder of her days in comfort and obscurity (perhaps she can move back to Lebanon, Hezbollah could use another propagandist/ed).

What has been missing from critiques of Helen Thomas’s anti-Semitic diatribe is any discussion of the precise way in which it trumped the usual slurs we hear from political figures (e.g., Jesse Jackson’s “Hymietown,” Reverend Wright’s “them Jews”). By picking Poland and Germany as the ultimate destinations to which she wishes Israelis would go, Thomas was, deliberately or carelessly, saying that they should be uprooted and sent to places where 6 million of them were liquidated. In other words, Thomas was not voicing the usual prejudice, but something much creepier, a sort of flippant pop blueprint for a repeat of 1939–45, echoing the shout from one of the seaborne “peace” protestors, “Go back to Auschwitz!”
Of course, Thomas doesn’t care that nearly half the Israelis are of Middle Eastern heritage, that many Israelis can claim a family residence in “Palestine” longer than her own in the United States, that a Jewish presence in Israel dates to the dawn of recorded history, that many of Israel’s older generation were ethnically cleansed from cities like Baghdad and Cairo after the 1967 war, or that her views are in sync with the Hamas charter and Iranian promises. Note also that Thomas is not concerned with occupation in such places as Tibet, Cyprus, or Ossetia; such human-rights violations as Turkey’s treatment of the Kurds; such violence on the high seas as the North Korean attack, Iran’s hijacking of a British ship, or the pirates off Somalia. All these are mere abstractions — unless they involve the Jews.

Geert Wilders, who is demanding a halt to immigration from Muslim countries as the centerpiece of his campaign for the Dutch prime ministership, has hailed Israel for “fighting the jihad” and warned that “the West is next” if Israel is unsuccessful.

“Israel is the canary in the coal mine,” Wilders said in a recent telephone interview with The Jerusalem Post, ahead of Wednesday’s elections in the Netherlands. “The jihadagainst Israel isn’t against Israel only. It’s against the whole West.”
A year ago, Wilders’s PVV (Party for Freedom) was scoring 28 percent in opinion polls and appeared to have a realistic prospect of winning the elections. It has declined since then, however, he said, as economic issues have become increasingly dominant.
“There’s not a big chance that I’ll become prime minister,” he said.
Nonetheless, the PVV is expected to double its current nine seats in the 150-member parliament, and front-runner Mark Rutte, of the People’s Party for Freedom of Democracy (VVD), said this week that he was not ruling out Wilders’s party as a coalition partner.

UMM Yusuf, an Australian convert to Islam who lives in suburban Fawkner, is finishing her afternoon prayers. The house is fragrant with the smell of the tomatoes, cumin and coriander her Bangladeshi husband is cooking in the kitchen.

THE HAGUE, The Netherlands—”The sluice gates are wide open,” Dutch anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders says in a campaign video that shows planes landing in Holland as women in headscarves outnumber natives in shopping street scenes.
“Every day we are confronted with mass immigration: headscarves, burqas, minarets, social security dependence, crime … it never ends,” Wilders laments as dramatic music plays in the background of the clip released ahead of June 9 parliamentary elections.
“Whole neighborhoods are being Islamized.”
Pollsters expect Wilders’ Party for Freedom (PVV), to double its strength from nine to 18 MPs in the 150 seat parliament on a ticket of halting the “Islamic invasion”—enough to make it a potential ruling coalition candidate.
“Wilders exerts a big influence on these elections,” political analyst Martin Rosema of Twente University told AFP.
Wilders’ bold move onto the shaky ground of multi-cultural tolerance, for long a matter of Dutch pride, “has prompted other parties to adopt a stricter approach to security and the integration of Muslims,” said Rosema.
Many parties’ manifestos now propose an immigration cut, mainly for the low skilled, and harsher treatment of foreign criminals.
Wilders’ PVV came first in Almere and second in The Hague in local elections in March—the only cities it contested in its first-ever municipal campaign.
But the PVV finds itself in opposition in both cities as other parties formed coalitions to exclude it, a situation observers expect to be repeated on the national stage.
Wilders, who calls his political enemies “multi-cultural cuddlers,” claims that 40 percent of social security payments go to non-Western immigrants and that people of Moroccan origin were crime suspects five times as often as indigenous Dutch.
“What the Netherlands needs is a stop to immigration for people from Muslim countries,” says the politicianwho has called for a “head rag tax” on headscarves.
Twenty percent of the Netherlands’ 16.5 million-strong population is of immigrant origin.
“There is a significant group of voters for whom immigration is the most important issue,” said political science professor Philip van Praag of the University of Amsterdam.
“They believe that people of Turkish and Moroccan background and Islamic belief are damaging Dutch society. They regard them as a threat, especially in the form of criminality perceived to be committed by immigrant youths.”
