Muhammad Badie, a 66-year-old professor of veterinary medicine is the new head of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. Indeed, barring any serious ill health he will probably run the Islamist group for the next ten to twenty years, foreclosing the possibility of any real moderation from that group.

Yet since Badie doesn’t want to make any changes in the Brotherhood, he is likely not to make it any more revolutionary either. Clearly, the Brotherhood fears confrontation with the Egyptian government because it knows who would lose. Already, about 1000 members have gone to jail each year and technically the Brotherhood is an illegal organization. If President Husni Mubarak is going to make his own son Egypt’s next president, the Brotherhood will have to shut up and take it.

Fwance promises to ‘rein in’ Israel

London-based pan-Arabic dailyAshark Alawsat reports that French President Nicolas Sarkozy promised Lebanese President Michel Suleiman that France would ‘rein in‘ Israel and prevent it from attacking Lebanon.

The paper, quoting what it calls a credible French source, reported that Sarkozy “promised to deal with the matter” during a meeting where Suleiman expressed his desire for increased Western pressure on the Jewish state and asked Sarkozy for assistance.

If Hezbullah attacks us, good luck with that. Netanyahu will be thrown out of office if Lebanon Hezbullah attacks us and he doesn’t respond by destroying all their infrastructure.

Here is a particularly audacious exercise in deception from Sheikh Ahmed Hassoun, the Mufti of Syria. I say deception because his assertions are so flagrantly at variance with the Qur’an and Sunnah that he simply must know that what he is saying is false. And while it is remotely possible that he is attempting to work a loophole by saying that Muhammad never said these things while knowing that the Qur’an does say them, on the pretext that Allah, not Muhammad, wrote the Qur’an, there is enough in the Hadith to show that Muhammad said the same things as well. My attention is being drawn about Anti-Islamic provocative website www.faithfreedom.org . I personally check the website which contains the Alleged Pictures of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be upon Him) which are forbidden according to teachings of Islam. The Life History of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be upon Him) is also described at the said website in a much distorted manner. What is more objectionable is that Anti-Islamic propaganda is done by imposing them as ardent Muslim.

I am optimistic that a swift legal action will be taken against the above identified website.

Five arrested for using fake British passports

FIVE UK-bound passengers were arrested at Islamabad airport, Pakistan, today after clearing immigration controls with fake British passports, immigration sources told Sky News.


Earlier reports said the men, who were booked on a flight to Manchester, northern England, had allegedly tried to hand over their boarding passes to five other men,  a Sky News report reveals.

The five other men, who were heading to Dubai, were being questioned by Pakistani police, the source said.

More Than Half of Turks in Austria Want Sharia…

More than half of the approx. 220,000 Turkish immigrants – 2.65% of the 8.3 million people in Austria – want Islamic law introduced into the Austrian legal system.  Asked whether some parts of Islamic law (e.g. marriage, family and inheritance laws) should be incorporated into Austrian law, 50% agreed, 16% said it depended on which elements were incorporated and 22% were against it.  Responses varied by education level and German language skills, but religion was the most decisive factor.  Close to 62% of religious-political Muslims agreed Sharia should be incorporated, compared to 41% of secular Muslims.  In both groups, an additional 16% said it depends on what elements were to be incorporated.

72% says that following religious commandments is more important than democratic ones.  For 57% of the Turks, the laws and regulations of Islam are more important than that of Austria.  And almost half of the Turkish immigrants say that crime in Austria is caused by democracy… Islam in Europe>>

A supporter of a banned terrorist group who condones suicide bombing is to speak at Birmingham University this week, raising further fears about the spread of Islamic extremism on campuses.

Azzam Tamimi, a Palestinian academic who is now based in London, is infamous for declaring that sacrificing oneself is a “noble cause”.

He has said that he would blow himself up in a strike against Israel, were he allowed back in the country, and has declared his support for Hamas, which is outlawed in Britain under the Terrorism Act.

He told the BBC in 2004: “You see, sacrificing myself for Palestine is a noble cause. It is the straight way to pleasing my God and I would do it if I had the opportunity.”

Mr Tamimi has been invited to speak at Birmingham University by its Islamic Society, at an event on Wednesday to commemorate the first anniversary of the “Israeli-led carnage” in the “concentration camp that is Gaza”.

His forthcoming appearance has been criticised by the Centre for Social Cohesion, a think tank that highlights Islamic radicalism in Britain.

Its director, Douglas Murray, said: “Birmingham University is clearly in denial. Our letter to them unmistakably demonstrates that Azzam Tamimi has repeatedly supported violent jihadist acts, and their Director of Academic Services has completely refused to acknowledge this.”

Although the meeting centered on Arab media, this bodes ill for honest discourse about Islamic jihad in Murdoch-owned media outlets. After all, we have already seen the effects of Prince Alwaleed’s money upon Murdoch.

Over the weekend, a number of readers sent me AP and other news stories about Saudi billionaire Prince AlWaleed Bin Talal Al-Saud’s interest in increasing his stakes in News Corp, the parent of FOX News Channel, FOX, the New York Post, and the Wall Street Journal, among other properties.  The article also discussed the new relationship between News Corp and Prince AlWaleed’s Rotana Media, as well as his Kingdom Holding Co.  But as with all stale news that’s older than mold, because Drudge picked it up as a headline, yet even more readers sent it to me.
